Filtering tap water: Many, but not all available home water filters remove Cryptosporidium. Some filter designs are more suitable for removal of Cryptosporidium than others. Filters that have the words "reverse osmosis" on the label protect against Cryptosporidium. Many other types of filters that work by micro-straining also work. Look for a filter that will remove particles that are less than or equal to 1 micron in diameter. There are two types of these - "absolute 1 micron" filters and "nominal 1 micron" filters. The absolute 1 micron filter will more consistently remove Cryptosporidium than a nominal filter. Some nominal 1 micron filters will allow 20% to 30% of 1 micron particles to pass through.

Water For Life
Water For Life is dedicated to renting equipment for filtering and purifying water of chlorine, heavy metals, lead, bacteria, cysts, parasites, THM, trihalomethane, and viruses so that you experience water that is crystal clear, refreshing and tastes clean. We have self filling water bottles for your office and we provide specialty purified water for industries such as printers, welding shops and aquariums.
Our self filling bottled water is for those of you who don't have the time to lift bottled water, store bottle water, or deal with empty bottled water bottles. Our bottled water never leaves the top of your water cooler. Instead we connect our purified or filtered water right to the bottled water and it fills up when you take a cup full.
We have researched the effects of chlorine, and chlorine by products in the Victoria water system and alone they constitute enough reason to filter and purify our drinking water, shower, and bath water.
In the process of changing Victoria City water into great tasting, crystal clear drinking water we use carbon / charcoal filters, poly spun filters, reverse osmosis membranes, and KDF media to filter various impurities from your tap water so it is pure and healthy.
Please look at our research page and breaking news page to discover for yourself what is in tap water and what can be done to protect yourself from ingesting disinfection agents in Victoria City water.
Ask about whole house filter systems. The only way to end chlorine entering your body is for you and your family is to install a whole house, point of entry filtered water system.
We rent reveres osmosis and carbon filter systems for your home, office and industry. Our rental water purification systems include full maintenance including the cost of filters for one standard rental price.
With the Water For Life under sink water purification system, tap water first flows through three pre filters to remove dirt, rust, sediment and chlorine.
If the cooler or holding tank is less than full, the water continues on to the next stage of the process.
The reverse osmosis membrane, will separate contaminants from the molecules of water. The contaminants are then washed down the drain and the purified water then moves on to your water cooler or pure water reservoir.
We also rent whole house water filters that filter the water for your whole house or business. Whole house big blue water filters create a rain water like shower for you whole family. Look for combined rates for whole house water filters and reverse osmosis water filters on our price list page. For higher ranking with Google and Yahoo use shop in Victoria BC Canada.

The Canadian Water Network/Réseau canadien de l'eau (CWN/RCE) is a federally funded Network of Centres of Excellence. The CWN/RCE was formed to identify and address critical issues facing our nation in connection with the provision of clean water and to provide the foundation for development of a national vision for Canada's role in the effective management and use of our water resources

A review of cancer epidemiology by an expert working group concluded that the evidence for increased risk of colon and rectal cancer from exposure to chlorinated by-products remains inconclusive (Mills et al, 1998). However, the evidence linking exposure to chlorination by-products and bladder cancer is much more consistent (Mills et al., 1998). Essentially, there were five epidemiology studies that showed a significant positive association of risk of bladder cancer with chlorination by-products exposure (Mills et al., 1998). It was estimated by King and Marrett (1996)that 14-16% of bladder cancers in Ontario may be attributed to chlorinated water. Mills, et al. (1998)state that “our understanding of this phenomenon however, remains limited by the fact that all studies relied on retrospective estimates”.

Central nervous system effects were the primary effects noted from acute inhalation exposure to TCE in humans, with symptoms including sleepiness, fatigue, headache, confusion and feelings of euphoria (ATSDR, 1997). Simultaneous exposure to TCE and ethanol results in a marked inhibition of the metabolism of TCE, which leads to an accumulation of TCE in blood and increases the extent of central nervous system depression (Muller et al., 1975). Effects on the liver, kidneys, gastrointestinal system and skin have also been noted (ATSDR, 1997). In its wide use as an inhalant anaesthetic drug in humans, concentrated solutions of TCE have proved quite irritating to the gastrointestinal tract and have caused nausea and vomiting (DeFalque, 1961).

Our drinking water does contain some toxins – but generally they do not pose a threat because the amounts are quite small and the levels are low.
Studies suggest that 10–13% of bladder and possibly colon cancers in Ontario may be attributable to long-term exposure to by-products of chlorination in household water supplies. This link is supported by other published scientific research.

Taking a hard look at chlorine
"About 62 per cent of all by-products that are formed when you chlorinate water with organic materials present have not been identified. Many of those that have been identified have been found to be carcinogenic or toxic," pointed out Dr. Bottaro.
Note- CBP stands for chlorination by products = THMS in Canada
EPA’s ability to quantify just one of the many health effects linked to CBP exposures (bladder cancer), illustrates how our country’s patchwork of health tracking programs ultimately hamstrings public health officials, forcing decisions that more often than not are based on just a fraction of the public health impacts from environmental contaminants. Tracking disease is a cornerstone of public health protection, and has been used effectively to identify and stop infectious disease outbreaks for decades. Nationwide, the tools of tracking and monitoring have not been consistently applied to chronic disease; birth defects and other conditions ranging from Alzheimer’s Disease to asthma to miscarriage remain inadequately tracked in the U.S.
